On January 24, Adult Swim confirmed the network would be cutting ties with Justin Roiland going forward. “Adult Swim has ended its association with Justin Roiland,” read a statement posted to the official Rick and Morty Twitter account. “Rick and Morty will continue.” Roiland, co-creator of Adult Swim’s animated comedy Rick and Morty, recently appeared in court for a pretrial hearing in Orange County after being charged with two counts of felony domestic violence. Per a report in The Hollywood Reporter, sources say Roiland, who plays the roles of both the show’s primary protagonists, will be recast, and Dan Harmon will now be credited as the series’ only showrunner. Rick and Morty was given a 70-episode renewal in 2018, through season ten.

In 2018, Adult Swim ordered 70 episodes of the hit series, signing long-term deals with Roiland and Harmon. The show was renewed through to season 10 and has four more seasons to go, after season 6 finished airing in December.

Roiland is also the founder of video game development studio Squanch Games. Last week, Roiland resigned from his position.

Rick and Morty co-creator Justin Roiland was recently charged with domestic violence in connection to a 2020 incident involving an anonymous woman. Shortly after, musician Allie Goertz shared a series of inappropriate Twitter messages she received from the animator.

Goertz said that Roiland’s messages made her to never see Rick and Morty again despite her writing a concept album for the show. In the messages, Roiland asked Goertz to write a song using inappropriate references to promote the message of “no more racism.”

Allie Goertz is an American musician and comedian who rose to fame by posting satirical songs on YouTube under the name “Cossbysweater.” She often includes references to iconic shows and films like The Simpsons, The Room and Arrested Development in her songs.

She garnered significant recognition in 2015 after creating the Rick and Morty concept album Sad Dance Songs. Goertz was born on March 2, 1991, and reportedly grew up with her three sisters. She started her music career by singing to strangers on Chatroulette.
