Dean Thompson accident

During the SpeedyCash.com 250 at Texas Motor Speedway, driver Dean Thompson of the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series was in a severe crash that forced him to be transferred to a nearby hospital for medical attention. Thompson, a 21-year-old from Anaheim, California, had been having his best race of his career before the accident occurred with less than 25 laps to go. Despite the crash, Thompson managed to finish in the top 10.

The collision involved Thompson's truck being hit head-on by Matt Mills and then struck again by Trey Hutchens. After exiting his vehicle, Thompson collapsed on the ground and received medical attention from an AMR Safety Team member. He was then taken by ambulance to the infield care center, where he remained under observation. Thompson's team reported that he was alert and responsive, and he was eventually sent to the Baylor Scott & White Medical Center for further testing.

Prior to the crash, Thompson had been performing well, with his most notable result being an 11th-place finish at Las Vegas in 2022. However, he lost positions on a late restart and spun off in Turn 4 in an attempt to make up for the loss.

The race was also marked by a collision involving the race leader, Nick Sanchez, who crashed into the outside wall and took out Zane Smith in the process. Carson Hocevar was able to avoid the debris and win his first Truck Series race. Sanchez, Smith, and Christian Eckes were involved in a crash as Sanchez slid to the outside wall, and Hocevar took the checkered flag as his competitors crashed out.

Following the collision, Thompson, Mills, Hutchens, and Williams were able to exit their destroyed vehicles on their own. However, Thompson was later placed on a stretcher and taken to the infield care center for evaluation by the AMR Safety Team.
